What is a health coach and what do they do?
A health coach is a certified practitioner that helps an individual reach health goals. They use different techniques, such as Motivational Interviewing or Stages of Change, and educational topics to discover, not only what is preventing success, but also what steps can be taken to realize success. Changing your lifestyle can seem like a daunting task! We all need someone in our corner.
What can a health coach NOT do?
Health coaches cannot diagnose or treat a condition. They cannot prescribe a dietary or nutritional plan. They cannot provide a specific exercise plan. However, if they feel you need advice that is outside of their scope of practice, they will advise you to seek a professional, such as a physician, psychiatrist, dietitian or personal trainer.
Why would someone want health coach services?
People often want to eat better, exercise and stop bad habits all at the same time. Or maybe your doctor has made recommendations with little direction. No wonder it's overwhelming! Health coaches work alongside clients to offer support and encouragement when they feel afraid and inadequate. They break down changes into small, doable tasks based on what their client feels is most important and realistic for them.

If I have a health condition, such as diabetes or heart disease, can ICH help me?
Yes! You may be trying to control health conditions by working on lifestyle changes. Maybe you've been told to eat a Mediterranean diet, but you aren't sure what that is. Or, to start a walking plan, but walking isn't possible for you. InCourage Health explains and guides you through the process of making lifestyle changes, which may include meal planning, different types and lengths of activity, working on sleep patterns or stress reduction to name a few.
