The POWER of Food

These past few weeks I've been really been struggling with staying awake after 8:30 pm. I mean I'm having a hard time keeping my eyes open. My sleep has been good, and I don't wake up tired. I haven't been able to figure out why I can't stay awake. Then, as I've been preparing for my first ever 5-Day Jumpstart, I think it's those darn chocolates that I still have a pile of from Christmas.

I'm super excited about this Jumpstart that begins on Sunday! A major part of the meal plan that is offered in this program is that everything is whole foods. I hear that phrase a lot these days, and it's not just because of the pretty popular grocery store of that same name. The thing is that our food shouldn't need to be qualified by that phrase at all. That is what humans, since the beginning of human life, ate. It has only been in the last 80 years that processed foods has even been a thing. When you look back at how long the human species has been eating, or trying to find food to eat, on this beautiful planet, even 100 years is just a blip.

We were not created to eat junk. Our bodies are a miraculous machine and we should treat it as such. We are designed as well-oiled machines that can still function at a high level without eating for days. Research is finding that we even become more focused with more energy when we go without food for days -- do you think that was so we could survive while we hunted for our next meal?

I don't think our ancestors ever went out to hunt for a can of Pringles!

The deal is that we need food, real food. That is when our bodies will function at its best. Have you noticed there's an obesity epidemic out there? What fuel are we feeding our machines? High octane fuel will give you high octane energy. With low octane fuel you're going to feel rundown, sluggish with not much zip - perhaps fighting sleep at 8:30 every night. If your fuel is mainly processed foods, your machine is not going to run at your peak. Much of what you'll find in your local grocery store is not high octane fuel. The middle aisles are full of boxed goods, whether shelf stable or frozen, that are pre-made and highly processed. If you go back and read the blog post on grocery shopping, It Starts at the Store, I discuss why shopping the outside aisles is so important -- that's where the power-filled foods are!

And, those foods are great if that's your only option. Although our garden is a lot of work, especially come harvest time, I so appreciate having a freezer and pantry full of foods we've grown ourselves. I know the soil they were grown in, they are chemical free, and how long they've been stored. There's a lot of POWER in those foods!

I can't wait to not only experience the changes myself, but more so what the others who are registered for the Jumpstart will experience! It's not an all foods based program, but there is so much power in healthy foods suggested, that I'm sure I'll be able to stay awake past 8:30 pm within the first couple of days. If you are interested in overcoming your sugar fix, increasing your energy, and maybe shedding a few pounds in the process, email me at incourage@incourage-health.com. We start on Sunday, 1/14/24. I'd love to have you join us!
